Coaching in Times of Crisis and Transformation by Liz Hall

Book
November 2016

This is collection of thinking about how coaching can support individuals in crisis. A few themes stand out as chiming with my experience, and are particularly helpful to the work of Crisis HR:

  • How a crisis can be a catalyst for a personal transformation i.e. diamonds can be mined from the muck
  • Dr Anton Obholzer’s description of a crisis showing up what is going on in an organisation, like a canary signalling the presence of toxic gases in the mining pits
  • The reasons why our brains finds it difficult to be the most effective during a crisis: the ability to stand back from day-to-day, able to consider possible solutions rather than problem analysis, able to tolerate ambiguity, good self insight and self efficacy.
